Sending a Thank You Note After an InterviewTutorialWriting a great thank you note after an interview is a lost art. As a manager, I have received two thank you notes in the past five years while having interviewed over 100 people. An effective 'thank you' note helps you stand out from the pack and impresses on the interviewer that you appreciate their time. Purchase a nice set of 'thank you' notes from a stationery store. You should always hand write your thank you notes for your intended recipient. When you are interviewed, request a business card from your interviewer to ensure you spell their name correctly. If they do not have a business card, confirm with them the spelling of their name before you leave the interview. Write a short and clear thank you note, September 5, 2005 Dear Mr. Smith, Thank you for the interview yesterday. I appreciate the time getting to know more about the XYZ Corporation and your team. I am very excited for the opportunity and look forward to hearing from you. Please let me know if you have any questions. Sincerely yours, Jack Thompson The purpose of the 'thank you' note is to simply thank the interviewer for their time. You do not need to reiterate too much about yourself or hit any points that are in your resume. Thank the person and move on! You should send your thank you note out the day of the interview or the next day. You can also drop it off at the company within three days of your interview. You don't want the note to arrive too soon and you really don't want it to arrive too late! by jreis on Wednesday, May 04, 2005
