How can I get my child into acting?

If you’re looking to get your child into acting, you need to take a realistic look at the lifestyle of a child who acts. If you still want to pursue this, you need to realize that most children who work as actors start at the bottom and few become truly famous.

Tutorial

Getting your child into an acting career should be easy as can be. After all, he (or she) is talented, cute as all get out and an incredible actor. At least that’s the humble opinion of the parent. The truth is that few children make the break into an acting career even with their parents’ full support. But if you’ve decided that you’re going to make the effort to get your child involved in acting, there are some steps you can take to make the process a bit easier and to help ensure success.

Find an agent.

This may seem unnecessary but an agent can open doors that you wouldn’t even know to knock on. A good agent can help direct your child’s career and help determine what jobs will help (or harm) the chances of continued success as an actor. Be sure that you check references and know that the agent will be working in the best interests of your child.

Be willing to start small.

The number of opportunities for jobs that will launch your child’s acting career into instant stardom are few and far between. You have to be willing to work your way up and that could very well mean amateur productions, minor modeling roles and commercials.

Remember that a career in acting may sound glamorous and exciting until the child is faced with the regimen required to fulfill a role. It might be that a single journey into the world of acting is enough to cure his longing for this path. Try to prepare for that possibility.
