How do I construction clean a window?

How do those cleaning gals get those windows so clean? Elbow grease and good old tried and true know how seems to be the way to go.

Tutorial

Cleaning a window after it has just been installed or once you’ve had remodeling work done is easy if you have the right tools. Water, glass cleaner, a rag, and paper towels are part of the list most people have in their home. You will also need straight edged razors, paint solvent, and a glue solvent. These last items can be purchased in any hardware store and there are also razor blade holders so as to protect your fingers and add precision to your scraping.

Lets start with the frame and work our way through to a picture perfect picture window. Water and a cloth will remove drywall mud but not most paint, so once you’ve wiped the entire frame with water and have determined there is paint and stickers still needing to be removed the heavy artillery is used. Paint solvents such as Toulene or Acetone can be used to remove any paint and vegetable oil or GooGone is a great way to loosen the glue from any stickers that the manufacturer has placed on the window. Using a single edged razorblade on stubborn spots of paint, glue or drywall is a must at times also.

Once the frame looks great on the inside and out, the glass is rally a breeze to clean. You will need several razorblades, because using a fresh one for each glass panel helps to prevent scratching. After wiping each glass panel with water to remove any loose material you then spray glass cleaner liberally to a panel of glass. You should always start with the upper panes and work your way down so as not to drip on those that are completely cleaned. Scraping with a razor in a uniform motion across or down, scrape the entire pane of glass and then wipe the edges of any liquid and loose debris. Then using glass cleaner you simply polish the window with clean paper towel. After completing each pane inside and out, you will have sparkling windows.
