How can I motivate my employees?

There are many different ways to motivate your employees. As of now, no perfect way exists, but there are some things to consider.

It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to know that motivated employees are the best kind. However, it does take a good manager to motivate their employees. That is an area that you can’t learn everything from a book. You have to really understand how employees feel to motivate them.

The hardest thing about motivating employees is that people are motivated by different things. Different rewards and perks can motivate people to do a better job. But that’s not always the case. Also, while there are many models of motivation, none are perfect. You should assess the atmosphere of your company before you decide on your preferred method.

Sometimes competition can motivate employees to work hard. However, this can sometimes create an atmosphere where people work against each other for their own gain. Rewards set for when a group of employees reach certain goals can also entice harder work. However, this too can create problems. When certain employees work harder than others, but get rewarded the same, this can create animosity.

One fairly obvious way to improve motivation among your employees is to allow chances for advancement. If you always hire from outside your company, your employees have little reason to work hard. If they feel that they are at a dead end, they will probably start looking for another job. You will cheat yourself in many ways if you never consider hiring internally, or from existing employees. Of course, there are reasons to hire externally also, but should not be every time.
