Checking My Tire PressureTutorialYour car’s tires may seem like the least important thing about your driving ability, but it’s actually one of the most important. Consider how you, as a driver, can feel the difference in how your car drives when you have a low tire. Your engine can also “feel” that low tire and it will affect your engine’s performance. If your engine isn’t performing well, your car’s performance – including gas mileage – will naturally be less than normal. Proper tire pressure is also important for your pocket book in terms of the length of the life of your tires. If your tires are inflated too much, the center of the tire will get the biggest amount of wear. If the tires are inflated too little, the outer edges of the tire will begin to break down. It could even break down the outer walls to the point that you’re going to have a flat that could very well ruin the tire – even if it was a new tire. To get the proper inflation rate, check recommended pressure limits that are generally stamped on the side of the tire. If you don’t find that number, check with the dealership where you purchased the tire. Remember that there are different requirements for most vehicles depending on the weather. by wendy ledbetter on Monday, June 27, 2005
