Finding Good Liability InsuranceTutorialGood liability insurance is more readily available than ever through the thousands of online insurance sites. You can shop, compare and purchase insurance from the comfort of your own home. But you liability insurance – like any other service you purchase – is only as good as the service provider. You may very well find an inexpensive liability insurance policy but it won’t be worth anything if it doesn’t pay when you need it to. There are dozens of reasons to have liability insurance. If you own a vehicle, you probably have liability insurance on that car. Most states require specific limits on your liability policy, though you can carry more than the specified amount. But there are plenty of other reasons to carry liability insurance. Liability is simply an admission of responsibility. Typically, liability indicates a negative impact to your financial situation. You are liable for your debts and that means you accept the responsibility to pay those bills. You are also usually liable if someone is injured at your home or place of business. That means that liability insurance for those situations are usually a good idea. You may even decide that taking out liability insurance in addition to your renter’s policy is a smart move. If you own a business, you could be required to hold specific liability insurance policies before some companies will do business with you. For example, trucking companies are required by state and federal mandates to carry specific liability policies. A particular company may require an additional policy before the trucks are allowed to haul that company’s freight. Construction companies may also meet similar requirements for specific jobs. The amount of liability insurance you cover depends entirely on the potential for damage. In a vehicle, the potential for damage is significant and your liability policy should reflect that potential. Other situations may be more or less and you should have sufficient liability insurance to reassure both yourself and those who could be affected by your coverage that you have liability insurance sufficient to cover any threat.
