How do I clean my desktop computer?TutorialBeing certain your computer is off, here are a few helpful hints to cleaning a desktop computer that can become simple maintenance and in the long run prolong the life of your computer. If you have the older type of monitor (that looks like an older version of a television) using a soft cotton cloth with mild cleaning solution to clean the screen is ideal. With the flat screened monitors it is suggested by the manufacturer to use a certain type of cleaning “squeegee” which usually comes with the monitor. A mouse that contains a “ball” needs to be cleaned on a regular basis. Turning the disk-like cover over the ball and removing it allows you access to the wheels that guide the ball inside. Removing the built up debris on the wheels with a long firm object and small soft toothbrush makes for smoother cursor motion. Be certain to blow out any debris scraped away from the wheels so as not to allow it further into the “mouse-ball” cavity. Cleaning a keyboard with household materials can be done also. Turning a keyboard up side down and gently shaking is a start. Running a soft bristled brush or dampened Q-tips along beneath and between the keys dislodges large debris that causes the keys to stick. Then shake again. by Wendy Ledbetter on Saturday, July 16, 2005
